Are you considering volunteering with us? Even if you have a few hours spare the time you give will make a difference to local lives.
The time you donate is flexible, it can be on a regular basis or any time you have spare. We only ask that when you do make a commitment to help, you arrive for duty as promised, we rely on our volunteers to be reliable and professional.
Our team of volunteers help across the whole organisation and we have many opportunities for you to consider, or maybe you have a skill you would like to share?
Why not come in and have a look around the hospice and find out more or arrange a Taster Session at one of our shops?
Call our Voluntary Services team on 01243 755815 / 755816 or email volunteers.office@stwh.co.uk to arrange an appointment – we would love to hear from you!
Our team of drivers transport patients and relatives to and from the hospice and occasionally to hospital appointments.
Drivers must have a full, clean driving licence and if they wish to use their own vehicle, it must be fully insured with a valid MOT. If drivers do not wish to use their own vehicle, the hospice offer adapted vehicles that can be used.
Drivers would be expected to take a driving assessment as well as attend an annual manual handling course. Please give us a call for a full list of requirements.
Our shops play a vital part in raising funds for the hospice. Our Shop Assistants are the face of the hospice in the community, providing friendly customer service, keeping the displays full, clean and tidy, helping on the till are just a few examples of how you can get involved. We offer a Taster Session in the shop you wish to help in so you can get to meet the team and find out more.
Is your passion gardening? Do you enjoy being part of a team? The gardeners meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings in our beautiful hospice gardens. The work involves tending the plants and flower beds, helping with new projects and some helping with the more physical work such as lawn mowing and general maintenance.
Our Family Services Team provides support to patients and their loved ones, backed up by a team of volunteers. After in-depth training the volunteers are confident to ring or visit relatives following a bereavement and offer help with emotional and practical issues. They also assist with the monthly Walk & Talk and monthly support groups we run for bereaved relatives.
Do you enjoy being at the heart of the action? Our Fundraising Events team and Supporter Groups run local events to raise much needed funds for the hospice. Dependent on the needs of the event, you could be helping with: registration, manning a game/stall, helping with refreshments, route guiding and car parking to name but a few. This is a varied role, with the opportunity to meet our supporters and is suitable for those who do not have much time to spare.
We have two Donation Centres which take in the majority of donated goods. Our Donation Centre Assistants greet donors and help sort donations, selecting the items that we can sell.
Our Amazon and eBay shops generate a large and ever-increasing amount of income for the hospice. Our eCommerce volunteers support the eCommerce Manager with the online listings and packaging items ready to post.
We have two main volunteer roles on our Inpatient Unit, both of which play a vital role in supporting our nursing team, both during the week and at weekends.
Our Ward volunteers are there to chat to patients, make drinks, serve lunches and keep our ward kitchen clean and tidy. Our Meet and Greet volunteers welcome visitors at reception, answer the telephones and help with small administration tasks.
There is also an advanced level of training offered so volunteers can also offer to support the nursing team with setting up a room for new admission, mealtime assistance, sitting with patients and hand massage.
Our Rehabilitation Team work with patients to maximise their quality of life and exercise can play a big part in achieving this. Our Exercise volunteers assist the team with the smooth of running of the exercise and relaxation groups.
The St Wilfrid’s Living Well Centre aims to provide a range of support to patients and their carers and our volunteers play a vital role. They welcome the patients and run the small coffee shop located in our main reception which offers homemade cake, snacks and drinks for patients, visitors, staff and volunteers.
These are just a few of our volunteer opportunities, contact us to find out the full range of opportunities on volunteers.office@stwh.co.uk or call 01243 755815
