Writing a Will is like writing the greatest story of your life
A Will is a legal document that declares your final wishes. But have you ever thought that writing your Will is much like writing the greatest story ever – the story of your life?
Your Will is your life’s final act written with the dramatic flair, it reflects your journey through the world, what you have collected in your life and a chance to define what is important to you. In short you decide what your legacy will be and how you want to share that with others.
Much like a Shakespearean play, your Will is filled with characters—family, friends, and perhaps a few villains (that distant relative angling for Grandma’s china!), it involves acts of generosity as well as tales about important historical events. Every decision, whether it’s leaving your prized collection of stamps or your Netflix password, will be infused with the echoes of “To bequeath or not to bequeath, that is the question.”
Just like the Bard’s complete works, your Will contains plot twists that no one sees coming. Did you leave a surprise inheritance to your cat? Will the drama escalate when the family discovers a long lost cousin inherits the family home? Well, I hate to be sensible now, but maybe it’s a good idea to leave those kinds of dramatics to Shakespeare, after all it is a legal document. This is your life story after all and you don’t want to turn it into a courtroom drama.
So embrace the quill (or keyboard) and write your Will like the final act of your life’s play. After all, “All the world’s a stage,” but only your Will determines who gets to keep the playhouse!
