Why give a major gift?

At St Wilfrid’s Hospice, we are deeply grateful for any donation you can give. We define a gift of £1,000 or more to be philanthropic. As a major donor, you will be invited to our annual celebration event to thank you for your generosity and update you on the Hospice.

It costs over £10.5m a year to run our end-of-life care services and only 17% of those costs are covered by an NHS grant. We rely on the generosity of the local community to help us raise the remainder of our costs.

Whether you’re an individual or an organisation, major gifts are very special. Whether you would like to help with a new project or would like to help us purchase specialist equipment, your generous gift will have a huge impact on the local community.

Trusts and Foundations

Donations from Trusts and grant-making organisations make up a large part of this funding and have a massive impact on our ability to continue running the Hospice and its services. We are incredibly grateful for all of the grants that we receive, helping us to cover the operational costs of essential personalised care.

We are also very thankful to receive restricted donations, which contribute to funding specialised equipment, capital projects and building repairs.

Donor Advised Funds (DAF)

A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is a simple, flexible and tax-efficient way to support local charities close to your heart, like St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

A DAF can be funded by a number of assets including cash, shares and non-cash assets. These assets receive immediate tax benefits, and can then recommend grants to charities of their choice over a period of time.
