Walk the Hospice Trail

We are delighted to announce that the official launch of the Sussex Hospices Trail, which is unique to Sussex and the UK’s only permanent long distance footpath dedicated to hospices, is taking place on Saturday 23rd September.

The 200 mile Trail has been devised by the charity 'Friends of Sussex Hospices' and has two years in the making. The walk is made up of 26 linear walks which vary from between 4 and 11 miles and goes past all the hospices that the charity support.

The launch event is a simultaneous relay and to take part you need to download the iFootpath app and download the walk of your choice. Then go to the Hospice Trail website to select your walk, nominate St Wilfrid's Hospice Chichester (not the Eastbourne one!) and register your team. The one off fee of £80* (for between 2-8 people) will come straight to us.

Participants will be given hats medals and a special Walkers Passport to stamp. On the day, don't forget to register with the Event Marshals at your start point and begin your walk.

Our 'Walk the Hospice Trail' event will see all twelve Sussex hospice areas connected on 23rd September by teams of walkers who will be raising funds for their local hospice, some will be walking in memory of a friend or family member they hold dear. We hope that every step will raise awareness of the vital role of the hospice movement."

Each of the 26 walks has turn-by-turn directions and a live GPS map. Just make sure you have downloaded the walk you have chosen onto your iFootpath App and read it through before you set off. On the day make sure you have two phones, both fully charged, onto which have been downloaded both the app and the walk before you leave home. There are written directions and the GPS will work as you walk, like a satnav, so you will see your location on the live map as you walk.
