Hazel’s Story – Volunteering in HR and on the Ward

We recently spoke to one of our Hospice Ward Assistants and HR volunteers, Hazel, about what she gets up to at the Hospice, and why she enjoys volunteering for a local charity.

What is it like to volunteer on the Hospice Ward and in our HR team?

“What’s really lovely is the cross-over between doing HR, I’m an ex-HR professional, so using those skills in the Hospice environment is lovely.”

“Being able to cross over onto the Ward, chatting with patients when I see them on my breaks in the cafe is lovely as well. I just like being with the people and hoping I make a difference.”

It’s a really humbling experience. The patients are wonderful, the staff are wonderful and the other volunteers are wonderful.
