Golfers hit hole in one for St Wilfrid’s Hospice

Golfers at Chichester Golf Club have been ‘putting’ the fun in fundraising this year with another successful Stevie B Cup competition raising £1706 for St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

The winner of the Wednesday Roll Up Stevie B competition 2021/22 was Dave Dumbrell (net score for best 3 rounds over the year 206). With 2nd place honours claimed by Ian Dyer (net score for best 3 rounds over the year 207).

Dave’s name will be immortalized onto the Stevie B trophy, named in memory of the St Wilfrid’s Hospice patient who found a new passion and comfort in golf after his terminal illness diagnosis 17 years ago.

Stevie was an adventurous soul whose surviving sisters were on hand to share stories and congratulate the winners. Chichester Golf Club runs the Stevie B competition over 12 months from April to March on its challenging Cathedral course.

This year’s event was organised by John Symonds, who said:

“The tournament was a fantastic opportunity to use the power of golf to spread the word about St Wilfrid’s vital charity work and emphasis, the Hospice is a valuable community asset we can all be very proud of.”

“Many of the families we know have personally benefited from the exceptional palliative care the Hospice provides. The staff have continued to work tirelessly throughout the pandemic and provide critical support to our NHS and we were proud to tee off for such an important local cause.”

Jenny Freeman, St Wilfrid’s Hospice Community Fundraising Officer said:

“Whether you know your birdies from your bogies or not, there is always something you can do to support St Wilfrid’s Hospice in its 35th anniversary year of providing expert care and compassion to those facing terminal illness in our local community.”

“It’s your ongoing fundraising that enable our clinical and social caring services to continue being provided completely free of charge to patients and their loved ones facing terminal illness.”
