How to Double the Difference

Could you do something doubly amazing for local people with life limiting and terminal illness in your community today?

2022 marks 35 years of expert care and compassion from the St Wilfrid’s Hospice team. Over 60,000 local people have been supported by St Wilfrid’s since their doors opened and at any one time St Wilfrid’s are supporting 325 patients, the majority in their own home.

The immediate threat of the COVID-19 pandemic may now be receding, but St Wilfrid’s Hospice nurses, doctors and care teams are dealing with the aftermath of the biggest challenge they have seen in their 35-year history. The Hospice clinical teams are supporting more patients in crisis and younger patients with complex treatment needs. These far-reaching effects of the COVID-19 pandemic will impact the lives of so many in our community for months and years to come.

To mark the charity’s 35th year, the St Wilfrid’s team are holding an exciting fundraiser this weekend, and they need you to be part of it.

Donations will be doubled by the Hospice’s generous sponsors during the 35-hour charity campaign on 3rd – 4th July!

You can join with hundreds of St Wilfrid’s Hospice Heroes and donate whatever you can afford, and your donation will be doubled at no extra cost to you.

Simply go to www.charityextra.com/stwilfrids to donate quickly and easily during the campaign.

Just £35 could fund an expert palliative care nurse caring for patients on St Wilfrid’s ward at night for one hour.

Peter Lee shared this memory of St Wilfrid’s support for his late wife Brenda

“St Wilfrid’s made an immediate difference. Helping us a great deal with their empathetic and enthusiastic nature and sorting out matters like disability insurance, personal care allowances and even reflexology for us both – everything we needed they set in process.

On the 4th August 2021 Brenda went to be on the ward for end of life care at St Wilfrid’s. This was at the height of Covid restrictions but I can honestly say everything was outstanding as it could possibly be. Outstanding staff and volunteers I cannot speak highly of enough. It was total support. She died on Tuesday 24th August. I deeply appreciated being able to stay with her as much as I could during that time.”

Michael Scott, supporter of the Hospice and the founder of Lazy Susan furniture company, has generously pledged £10,000 to the match funding pot. Michael said,

“We were delighted to take the pledge for St Wilfrid’s as even one hour in their care can make the world of difference to a family experiencing the challenges of terminal illness. We’re looking forward to seeing the final tally in July to see just how much of a difference local business and our community can make when they come together.”
