Thanks to your incredible efforts, we’re excited to share that you’ve helped us exceed our target of £26,000 to help us pay for an extra day of hospice care. In total you raised a fantastic £65,741!
Through fundraising, shopping in our charity shops, and making generous donations, our community raised a total of £39,741, and our brilliant match-funders matched the first £26,000.
We are overwhelmed with gratitude by your generosity – A HUGE thank you to everyone who got involved to help us pay for the extra day of hospice care this leap year.
Why pay for a day?
Did you know it costs £26,000 per day to provide our specialist end-of-life care for people in our community and to support their families and loved ones?
2024 is a leap year, and February has an extra day in the month. So, we are asking if you could be a Leap Year Legend for St Wilfrid’s Hospice and help us pay for an extra day of vital end-of-life care.
We are asking you, our local community, to get involved this February to fundraise, hold fun events, or even just make a small donation to local hospice care.

Why fundraise for hospice care?
As we all know too well, the rising cost of living crisis is hitting us all. As a charity, our costs are rapidly increasing every year, and it now costs over £9million per year to fund our vital end-of-life services.
In addition to our rising costs, the number of people under our care is also increasing. At the moment, we support over 325 at any one time, for our 14 bed Ward at the Hospice and our Community Team visiting local people at home. We receive over 900 referrals each year and serve a catchment from Emsworth to the west and Arundel to the east, south of the Downs and to the coast.
By 2043 the number of 65+ adults in West Sussex will rise to almost 300,000*. This is why it’s never been more important to support your local hospice. (*Source)

How you can help pay for a day
Make a donation
We have a dedicated Pay for a Day Just Giving community page.
A donation of £26.50 could pay for a day of travel costs for our Clinical Nurse Specialists to visit patients at home to deliver vital care. Every £1 makes a huge difference to local lives.
Do a challenge
Ready, set, go! Set yourself a challenge in February and get your friends and family to sponsor you. Set yourself a daily step challenge for the month, or go big and do a skydive! The choice is yours.
If you were to fundraise £680, your big challenge could fund the full daily cost of a patient bed on our Hospice inpatient Ward.
Tell a friend
You can join us on our Pay for a Day Just Giving page and have your own sponsorship page. Tell your friends and family what St Wilfrid’s Hospice means to you and ask them to donate.
A donation of £30 could pay for transport for our patients to and from the Hospice for a whole day.
Go shopping
Shop in one of our high street shops during February and pop a donation on your receipt at the till – every penny counts!
A donation of £10 could contribute to the lotions and oils used in a day of relaxing hand massage appointments for patients and their loved ones.
