Working alongside patients to help them remain as independent as possible, for as long as possible.

We work in both a proactive and responsive way, encouraging our patients to try and achieve what is physically important to them, thus enhancing overall wellbeing and quality of life.

After being in hospital for 6 months, I never thought I’d stand again but with the support and dedication of the rehab staff and the encouragement of the other patients at St Wilfrid's Day Centre, I managed it! I have much more energy now and feel so much more confident and in control.

Our team of highly experienced Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists is based at the Hospice but work with patients within all settings - be it where they live, in St Wilfrid's Day Centre or on the Inpatient Ward. Also, depending on the needs of a patient, we work on an individual basis or within small groups.

Starting with an assessment of daily life and activities, the team then works with patients towards a range of aims to maximize their quality of life, such as maintaining mobility and muscle strength, managing breathlessness and anxiety using relaxation techniques and combating fatigue and conserving energy in everyday tasks.

Our Physiotherapy team can help patients achieve their maximal potential of functional ability and independence or gain relief from distressing symptoms. They can help increase strength and stamina, reduce pain and manage symptoms.

Our Occupational Therapy staff can find practical solutions to everyday situations and problems that are important to our patients. They can help adapt, advise on or provide equipment for anything from personal care and domestic activities to managing breathlessness and relaxation techniques.
