National Apprenticeship Week
Freddie Chandler – Marketing Assistant Apprentice
Hi, I’m Freddie Chandler, I’m 18 and I am an apprentice at St Wilfrid’s Hospice, more
specifically, a Marketing Assistant Apprentice. I started the apprenticeship in January this
year and have learnt a great deal of things already in my first month.
The main reason I applied at St Wilfrid’s Hospice was because I had previously worked in a care
home as my first job and so felt I had some idea as to how the hospice worked, also I had
always known about the charity as I’ve been to their shops many times as I was growing up.
They have always been a well-known charity in my life and when the opportunity arose, it felt
right to apply to be working in a job that made a positive difference to local lives.
Over my first few weeks I got to experience all the different areas of the charity, from the
Clinical side, to the shops on the high street. It was really interesting to see how much is put
into running the Hospice and everyone was lovely at each point. It really showed me how
important the charity is to our community and motivated me to put all my effort into my role.
Other than how the Hospice works, I’ve been constantly learning new things in my Marketing
role, and have got to be involved in many different projects already. I also have been able to
work in an Office environment which I am very grateful for as in the current world state, office
work is a much less common thing but I have been lucky to start my career in an amazing,
caring place where I can interact with people in person rather than through a screen.
I am very excited about the future of my apprenticeship, already I have learnt so much and I can’t wait to see the future projects I will get to be involved in. I’m looking forward to becoming more
independent as I become more capable and able to complete tasks. Being part of all the different
events and initiatives and getting to make content to promote them is very exciting for me!
