Moonlight Walk Volunteering

Can you help make a much-loved event special this year?

As we mark the 35th Anniversary of St Wilfrid’s Hospice care we want to make the Moonlight Walk the best it’s ever been this year and we need you!

Volunteering is as varied this year as it’s ever been! Be located in the hub of the start and finish of the walk, or out on the route creating motivating moments for the walkers who are all fundraising for a special cause. We want to hear from you if you’d like to be part of this amazing community event.

How you can volunteer

We need you to fill in all the details on the form. We will take your preferences into account but we may need to ask you to volunteer in another role if we are over subscribed for some roles. Before you register please take a moment to consider a few things:

How much time can you give? There will be options to decide how long you would like to volunteer for.

What would you like to help with during the Event Evening?  You can apply to volunteer for any of the following roles, just tick the one that applies when you register.

  • Set up volunteer – help in setting up the walk start/finish and registration hall.
  • Route Marshals – will direct and assist walkers along the route, encouraging them on with enthusiasm.
  • Refreshment Stewards – will be stationed at refreshment stops, supporting walkers to top up on drinks and snacks.
  • Registration Steward – will be stationed in the Westgate Hall either registering walkers into the walk or registering them out of the walk when they have finished.
  • Van Drivers – pre-event and during the event helping to deliver equipment around the route and to the refreshment stops. You must be comfortable driving a large van.

Until the first walkers started arriving for the Moonlight Walk, we had no idea just how important all the volunteers are in running this huge fundraising event. It really was a case of the more hands the merrier. The afternoon spent setting up with team St Wilfrid’s was an absolute ‘hoot’ and we could all clearly see the value of our input in helping with signs, registrations, directions, or wherever we were needed. To be part of such an inspirational team, dedicated right to the end of the night and all the clearing up, was just brilliant. We even discovered previously hidden talents in sorting tangled fairy lights, and how to wave light sticks in a Star Wars-worthy style. The team kept us going with free-flowing tea and coffee so we could focus on cheering on the participants. Even playing just a small part in this fundraising effort that raised over £100,000, gives a sense of a job very well done.”
