Money saving shopping tips

Every January can be hard on the wallet, however, you may feel this January is particularly uncertain with the rising cost of living. To help, our retail team at St Wilfrid’s Hospice has put together some ways that could help you stretch your pennies a little further this month.

Furniture – New furniture is always an expensive purchase and if you have kids or pets, you’ll want something hardwearing. St Wilfrid’s Hospice has two treasure trove furniture outlets where you can purchase pre-loved furniture for a more affordable price. We only stock good quality furniture items so whether you want to upcycle, or love your new found treasure as it is, you’ll be sure to find a bargain!

Clothes – After Christmas we all probably have a few too many new clothes, but sometimes the new socks you got just don’t really feel like YOU. You can visit any of our 12 shops and be able to find many wonderful and unique clothes, as no shop has exactly the same selection. Filling your wardrobe is a lot more affordable and easy to do with a charity shop and you never know, your perfect shirt could be waiting for you on one of our lines.

Books – Reading is always a great way to spend a bit of free time and looking for your next book is always an adventure of its own! Our shops all have a wide collection of books on the shelves so why not have a browse.

Toys – Kid’s toys break all the time, we get that. Rather than having to buy a brand new toy every time one gets broken and spending lots of money on the newest product, why not choose something from one of our charity shops. Pre-owned toys are much more affordable and sustainable for the planet!

Birthday Gifts – Other than Christmas, birthdays can be one of the worst times for your wallet. We all know that times are tough, but we still want our children and family to feel loved on their birthdays. If you want a simple, affordable present then check any of our shops, we’re confident that you will find something that they’ll love.

Weddings – This may be a surprise, but did you know we have a Wedding section at our Terminus Road shop? We have a huge selection of wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, accessories, men’s suits and prom dresses. This way you can cut down on your wedding costs and give a wedding dress another chance to shine on your big day. Appointment-based only!

Online Shop – Did you know you can shop from your sofa with St Wilfrid’s? We have multiple online shops where you can buy lots of items that might not be found in our physical shops, from our eBay which has a lot of unique goods, to our Depop which is another way to buy clothes with St Wilfrid’s, even if you don’t live near one of our shops.

Vintage – Are you more of a Retro and Vintage kind of person? Do you prefer the slightly older styles and antiques? We have a shop dedicated exclusively to these types of products! Our Retro and Vintage shop is just for the vintage items, for those who like to have items with a bit of history and a story to them, or just love the older style.

Find out where all our shops are so you can start your Charity Shopping and keeping your purchases affordable this year!
