St Wilfrid’s new Director of Nursing, Suzy O’Callaghan, says she is delighted to be joining such a dynamic team delivering compassionate and expert care.
Suzy brings with her extensive experience from a range of health care settings.
Having grown up in a military family she eventually pursued a career in nursing and during her time as a student nurse joined the Army Reserves.
Following a specialist career in adult and children’s neuroscience, Suzy was offered an opportunity to lead a rehabilitation service for children with acquired brain injury in Bath. It was during this time she says that she really got to understand the value of close Multi- Disciplinary Team working.
After working for a period with the Defence Medical Services, Suzy was recruited to a Head of Clinical Services post at St Margaret’s Hospice, Somerset where she was responsible for the Nursing and Therapy services across South Somerset and the Mendips. Just before taking up the St Wilfrid’s role, Suzy was at Weldmar Hospice in Dorset where she was responsible for the delivery of community and In Patient Nursing and Therapy Services for West Dorset.
I want to develop a full understanding of how the St Wilfrid’s Hospice team deliver their services. I am looking forward to working closely with the Management Team, particularly during this final phase of planning before the new hospice opens its doors in 2019, said Suzy.
"There will be challenging times ahead and I want to focus on retaining and increasing the number of quality staff the Hospice already has so we can continue our stable culture into the new build."
