Ness' story

I joined the St Wilfrid’s Clinical Nurse Specialist team eighteen years ago. I feel privileged to be part of a community team that supports people in their own homes, including nursing and care homes, within our catchment area. I am one of ten Clinical Nurse Specialists at the Hospice and our aim is to give patients the best quality of life possible, for as long as possible and work with them to achieve this.

No two days are quite the same but generally my first job of the day is to catch up with any changes to my patients and any urgent issues that need to be dealt with as a priority. This enables me to plan the rest of my time. After patient visits, I go back to the office and update the notes. It is vital to ensure patient notes are updated as it ensures other colleagues have the most up-to-date information regarding their care.

The best thing about my job is getting to meet so many wonderful people at such a vulnerable time in their lives. I feel lucky to help them in as many ways as I can.
