On 25 September Alison Moorey, our Chief Executive was honoured with a fellowship from Chichester College in recognition of 22 years of leadership of St Wilfrid’s Hospice.
Alison Moorey first joined St Wilfrid’s in 1997 as Director of Nursing and became Chief Executive in 2006, overseeing many projects to increase the Hospice’s standing by working with other agencies to ensure people get easier access to compassionate care that puts the patient’s needs first. This included providing exceptional direct support to several Chichester College staff members and their relatives during this time.
Just one major milestone was the introduction of the Hospice at Home service, now celebrating it’s 10-year anniversary. Allowing more people than ever to access support for a loved one’s last few weeks of life, it has gifted many families more time together in the comfort of their own surroundings.
For the past 11 years the Moonlight Walkers have been led off the starting line by none other than Alison and the St Wilfrid’s nurses in a walk to remember that raised a record £115,000 last year. (Save the date - May 2, 2020)
The past few years have been consumed with the herculean efforts of creating a purpose built new Hospice in Bosham which finally opened in June 2019, equipped to meet the challenges of the next 30 years and beyond.
Alison said, “I vividly remember my first visit to St Wilfrid’s back in 1997 and the warm and friendly welcome that continues to this day. The special essence of what we do remains the same – finding out what matters to each and every person we support and doing our very best to make that happen. We know that the Hospice at Bosham will continue the legacy of Grosvenor Road; providing a home from home environment with vastly improved facilities. A place where patients and their loved ones receive the very best end of life care and support”.
With the recent public tours seeing over 800 people tour the new facility, a few new dates have been added to commemorate Hospice Care week on 15 and 17 October. To book your free tour visit stwh.co.uk/opentours.
