Gardeners give big green thumbs up to St Wilfrid's Hospice
Garden lovers are being urged by St Wilfrid’s to give a big green thumbs up this summer to raise money for the hospice.
You can still register to be part of our ‘Open Garden’s summer programme until the end of May by contacting us at email@example.com. Lots of gardeners have already opened their gardens for the June, July and August season. See the full list of wonderful gardens at www.stwh.co.uk/support-us/events/open-gardens-2018/.
“We have some brilliant gardeners locally and this will provide the perfect day out this summer,” said Head of Fundraising at St Wilfrid's, Jerry Doyle. “There will be plenty of tea and cake on offer too!”
This year we have big and small gardens, allotments, Care homes, Nursing homes and schools, run by young and old alike.
Every week, a class of children from St Philips Primary school work on the school grounds in Growing Club. They are supported by local residents from Arundel Allotments. The children help weed, plant and maintain the flower beds and in the summer flowers are planted and fruit and vegetables grown. They keep strictly to their colour palette of red, white and blue even with their hanging baskets. Check out this patriotic garden on Saturday 9 June (3-5pm at Fontwell Park, Fontwell Avenue, Nr Chichester, PO20 3RY).
On Sunday the 8th July between 2-4pm, we will open our gardens and hold our annual Rainbow Day here at St Wilfrid’s on Grosvenor Road, Chichester, for the last time, before we move to our new Hospice in Bosham in 2019. We welcome all bereaved families and friends to the Hospice to celebrate memories of their loved ones.
There will be activities, stalls, music, refreshments and entertainment for all the families and our traditional rainbow cards will be available should you wish to dedicate a special message to a loved one. Not forgetting the beautiful dove release, in memory of those no longer with us.
St Wilfrid’s Open Gardens 2018 season will close with the award winning gardens at Elmleigh on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 August 10am-5pm (54 Elmleigh, Midhurst, GU29 9HA). Majestic pines and two ponds teeming with tadpoles will be the star attraction at this child friendly and dog-on-leads welcoming garden.
If showing off your garden is a passion of yours and you want to get involved, then contact firstname.lastname@example.org to get involved.
