It goes without saying that we love being Turner’s Pies Charity of the Year as much as we love their pies...

In May 2017 Theresa Turner, of Turner’s Pies called St Wilfrid’s and to explain that the business wanted to support us as their Charity of the Year.  Apart from knowing they are a great local pie shop, I didn’t know very much about Turner’s Pies but as soon as I checked out their website I found out that they are an award winning, third generation family business that has grown from humble beginnings of Eva and Reginal Turner’s kitchen to three fantastic shops in Bognor Regis, Rustington and Chichester. Wow, what a great business and how fantastic that they want to help us! Their pies and cakes are legendary and I can personally vouch for how good they are; I can’t stop myself from buying cakes for the rest of the Fundraising Team whenever I go to meet with Theresa.

The first thing Turner’s Pies did was to donate vouchers to use for tombola and raffle prizes. A couple of months later they had decided to create a special pie and call it The St Wilfrid’s Pie; how amazing is that? Our very own pie! It was sold in each of their three shops throughout August and they very generously donated ALL proceeds from the sale of the St Wilfrid’s Pie to us! The recipe and flavour combination was brand new; chicken leek and potato – delicious (yes, I did buy one!).

At Christmas time, Turner’s Pies came up trumps again and supplied their delicious individual mince pies for us to hand out to people at Lights of Love, an event held at Hotham Park, Bognor Regis to celebrate lives and remember loved ones - they went down a real treat, I can assure you!

Alongside all of this they held collection boxes at each of their three shops for the whole year. Their generosity is set to continue with the recent news that they are going to keep us as their charity for a second year, so a massive thank you Theresa, Phil, Peter and Joseph!

Plans for the coming year haven’t been firmed up yet but I imagine it will be more of the same as last year. I do know, however, that Phil and his brother Peter are considering running the London Marathon for us which is incredible; thank you boys! I hope the training doesn’t take you away from the pie factory too much, we all love your pies and pastries very much indeed!

It goes without saying that we love being Turner’s Pies Charity of the Year as much as we love their pies. Thank you to everyone in the business, the Turner family and all their staff in the shops, in the factory and in the vans – we appreciate all of your fantastic efforts to help raise money and to help make a difference to local lives.
