Leaving a gift in your Will is a deeply personal decision, and it can bring peace of mind to know your legacy will make a difference. However, we understand you might have questions about how much to leave and how to plan for the future when life is uncertain.

You may be worrying that you don’t know how much money to leave, or even if you will have enough to leave to charity. However, did you know that if just 38% of people in our community left a gift of £300 in their Will, we could fully fund the Hospice Ward for at least seven years?

How much is the right amount?

There’s no “right” or “wrong” amount to leave. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference. If you’re unsure how much to give:

  • Start small: Even a modest amount can have a meaningful impact. For example, £500 could fund an entire day of support from our Family Support Team.
  • Think about your priorities: Consider what matters most to you – whether it’s leaving support for loved ones, donating to charity, or both.

How much could a gift in my Will fund?

Every gift means more support, more care, and more years of vital service for those who need us. Together, we can ensure St Wilfrid’s Hospice remains a place of comfort and compassion for your local community.

  • A gift in your Will of £500 could pay for a day of the Family Support Team to help recently bereaved loved ones.
  • A gift in your Will of £3,000 could pay for a Clinical Nurse Specialist team provide a day of care for patients.
  • A gift in your Will of £9,000 could pay for the entire Ward for a day.

What if I don’t know how much money I’ll have?

It’s common not to know what your financial situation will be later in life. To plan for this:

  • Consider a percentage gift: Leaving a percentage of your estate (known as a residuary gift) means your loved ones are cared for first, and your charitable gift adapts to whatever is left.
  • Flexible planning: You can update your Will if your circumstances change, ensuring your wishes always reflect your situation.

It’s your legacy

Whatever you decide to leave, rest assured it will help secure the future of care for others in our community. Your Will ensures your values live on, providing compassion and support to those who need it most.
