Summer School

Are you interested in finding out about a career in healthcare?  Then join us for a free course from 5th - 9th August.

  • Are you aged 16 - 19 and interested in a career in health or social care?
  • Would you like a chance to find out what it’s really like by spending time with care professionals?
  • Would you like the opportunity to experience the work environment, to meet health and social care professionals doing a variety of jobs and find out first hand if any of these professions might be right for you?
  • Would you like to achieve three nationally recognised vocational qualifications which can enhance your prospects of College, University or Apprenticeship?

If you answered yes to any of the above, then the ‘Exploring a Career in Care’ course at St Wilfrid’s may be just right for you!

During the course you will get the chance to meet professionals working in the Hospice, talk to patients and receive training from highly qualified specialists. 

It runs in conjunction with Chichester College and includes:

  • the skills and attitudes needed to work in care
  • communication in the care profession
  • the importance of team working
  • SAGE & THYME® communications skills training (nationally recognised)
  • Dementia Friends information session (an Alzheimer’s Society national initiative)
  • Awareness of End of Life Care

Successful completion of the course will give you

Level 2 Award

Level 2 Award

Level 1 Award

Awareness of End of Life Care
(3 credits)

Responsibilities of a Care Worker
(2 credits)

Awareness of communication in adult social care 
(2 credits)


The course is paid for by Health Education England, Kent, Surrey Sussex so will cost you nothing more than your time, effort and commitment to study. 

The course runs from 5th to 9th August plus one date between the 13th - 15th August. It takes place in our Education Centre which has a great range of facilities and is close to public transport links.
