Understanding the Needs of the LGBTQ+ Community at End of Life

St Wilfrid’s Hospice Education Team is launching a new, discussion-based workshop exploring the unique experiences and needs of LGBTQ+ people, including trans and gender-diverse individuals, when approaching the end of life.
This comprehensive workshop draws on Hospice UK’s 2023 report “I Just Want to Be Me”, the Learning Framework for LGBTQ+ Care in Later Life (2023), and other evidence-based recommendations. Through facilitated discussions and shared learning, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the barriers faced by LGBTQ+ communities and practical ways to provide inclusive, affirming, and compassionate care.
The workshop reflects Hospice UK’s call to “listen, hear each person’s story, and help them live freely while ultimately caring for them with compassion.” While focused on palliative and end-of-life care, the inclusive principles taught also strengthen person-centred practice across wider healthcare settings.
This course will be fully funded by NHS Sussex.
