This new study half-day is suitable for healthcare assistants and health and social care support workers who want to make a difference in dementia and end of life care.

The course will provide an overview of dementia and some of the effects, with the following learning objectives:

  • Identify some helpful analogies for explaining dementia concepts to families
  • Identify the most common types and causes of dementia
  • Identify the principles of communication in dementia
  • Describe some of the available tools for identifying and assessing pain in dementia
  • Identify the principles of person-centred care
  • Identify how to recognise end of life stage in dementia
