Advanced Communication Skills Training for Senior Clinical Professionals

Price: £250.00 per person – partially funded by NHS Sussex and is open to all Sussex employees in senior clinical roles in health and social care. For those working outside of NHS Sussex the cost is £650 per person. All course materials included.
This is a two-day face to face course, based on nationally developed evidence-based programme, for senior clinical professionals with professional actors to:-
- Increase awareness of own verbal and non-verbal communication skills and style.
- Increase confidence in responding to common communication challenges, such as:-
a. Information gathering and giving with time constraints.
b. Handling strong emotions (e.g. anger/distress)
c. Shared decision making.
d. Breaking bad news.
e. Initiating and sustaining end of life conversations.
f. Dealing with complaints.
g. Working with colleagues.
Key aspects of the course are:-
- Evidenced based, originating from former nationally implemented CONNECTED ACST course.
- Practice focused & learner centred.
- Supportive and constructive learning environment.
The course offers expert actors and video feedback. It will be led by an accredited, national approved facilitator. Participants are expected to take part in all aspects of the course and full attendance on both days is required.
Lunch is not provided but fresh coffee and biscuits along with other refreshments throughout the day.
Certificates of attendance, along with an advanced communication skills manual, will be issued following submission of post course questionnaires and evaluation plus two brief reflective pieces. Approved by the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom for 12 category 1 (external) CPD credit(s).
