Sales Assistant - Midhurst Charity shop

Salary: £8.21 per hour
Hours: 22.5 hours per week (worked on a Rota basis including weekends and bank holidays)
End date: Closing Date: 15 December 2019

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Sales Assistant to join our team at our Charity Shop based in Midhurst.  Applicants must have the ability to work independently and as a supportive team member, the successful candidate will have strong customer service skills that are professional and welcoming. Manual handling is involved in the role.

In addition to the specified hours of work, there may be opportunity to work extra hours to support the needs of the business, and so, flexible availability is necessary to accommodate shift patterns that include weekends and bank holidays.

  • Delivers the St Wilfrid’s culture of excellence in people care ensuring that the shops enhance the profile of the hospice in the community
  • Delivers a high standard of customer service at all times
  • Assists in the day to day running of the Charity Shop
  • Assists in the control, sorting and pricing of saleable goods
  • Ensures that items for sale comply with current trading legislation
  • Assists in the promotion work of the hospice as required
  • Takes responsibility for safe practice and awareness of health and safety and infection control thus ensuring that the Hospice’s exposure to risk is minimised
  • Presents all items in the shop neatly and safely
  • Controls and monitors paperwork associated with the day to day running of the shop, including van scheduling system where relevant
  • Ensures that all till operations, EPOS and cash handling procedures and transactions are carried out accurately and efficiently
  • Promotes and implements Gift Aid as required
  • Challenges self and others in the team to make continuous improvement
  • Works as an integral part of the shops team, being sensitive to the needs of the whole team and supportive of other team members
  • Communicates clearly and regularly with their Line manager and colleagues
  • Deputises for the Shop Manager as required
  • Participates in the rigorous application of performance management
  • Provides development training and support for self, including mandatory updates
  • It is the responsibility of all staff to treat volunteers with respect and value their contribution
  • Works within agreed hospice policies, procedures and guidelines
