Retail Donation/Distribution Centre Operative (two posts)

Salary: £8.21 per hour, pay review pending
Hours: 37.5 hours per week and 15 hours per week (on a rota basis, including weekends and bank holidays)

Do you have warehouse experience, and enjoy meeting people too? We currently have vacancies for Donation/distribution centre operatives in Chichester. You will need strong organisation and customer service skills, with prior charity or retail experience an advantage.

As a Donation/Distribution Operative you will be based at our Donation Centre in Terminus Road, Chichester, and will assist in the manual handling of furniture and goods received, where donated goods are sorted and distributed to our shops. You will demonstrate strong team work, communication and customer service skills.

The outlet trades 7 days a week and the role(s) involve a high level of manual handling. 

 

JOB PURPOSE

  • Support the Manager in delivering excellent customer service
  • Work with the team to support all Retail activities

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Delivers the St Wilfrid’s culture of excellence in people care, in particular recognising that some donors may have been recently bereaved
  • Assists in the day to day running of the site in the control of furniture and goods received, sorting of saleable goods and distribution thereafter
  • Assists in disposal of waste to tip as required
  • Assists in loading and unloading of vans
  • Prepares goods for sale
  • Promotes Gift Aid as required
  • Helps maintain a clean and tidy work environment
  • Assists in the presentation and movement of furniture in the shop showroom as required
  • Acts as assistant to the driver as required, using safe and agreed practices at all times
  • Takes responsibility for safe practice and awareness of health and safety and infection control thus ensuring that the Hospice’s exposure to risk is minimised
  • Challenges self and others in the team to make continuous improvement
  • Works as an integral part of the shops team, being sensitive to the needs of the whole team and supportive of other team members
  • Communicates clearly and regularly with their Line manager and colleagues
  • Comply with requests from the Shop Manager, Deputy Manager and the Shop & Donation Centre Supervisors
  • Works at other locations as required
  • Participates in the rigorous application of performance management
  • Provides development training and support for self including mandatory updates on H&S, fire safety and back care
  • It is the responsibility of all staff to treat volunteers with respect and value their contribution
  • Works within agreed hospice policies, procedures and guidelines
