Clinical Database Manager

Salary: In the region of £32,525 per annum pro rata
Hours: Up to 30 hours per week

A fantastic opportunity for a Database Manager has arisen within our Clinical team reporting into the Director of Nursing.

As a Clinical Database Manager, you will lead the development of SystmOne the Clinical database across the hospice, ensuring that processes are in place to provide accurate and comprehensive data reporting on service activity for internal and external purposes, whilst providing support for all SystmOne users.

We are looking for someone who is educated to degree level, with previous experience of using SystmOne or a similar database.  Someone who is highly organised is able to work independently as well as working effectively as part of a team. 

Ideally you will have strong IT skills, including good knowledge of Microsoft excel, has strong reporting and analytical skills, who can demonstrate excellent communication and is confident in delivery training, with a pro-active approach to your work.

  • Improve and develop the use of SystmOne as the Clinical Database used across the Hospice
  • Keep fully abreast of developments in SystmOne and make recommendations for change
  • Ensure that processes are in place to provide accurate and comprehensive data reporting on service activity for internal and external purposes
  • Ensure that processes are in place to train users and monitor data recording so that system integrity is maintained and improved


  • Leads Development of SystmOne across the Hospice
  • Leads the support and training provided to all users of SystmOne
  • Line manager for Clinical Database Administrator
  • Oversees and leads the reporting of all data from SystmOne
  • Member of Senior Staff Group, Information Governance Steering Group and Data Protection Working Group


  • Leads development of SystmOne, working closely with the IT department and liaising with other organisations as required to make recommendations to the Management Team
  • Develops templates and makes changes to SystmOne as required
  • Provides clinical activity and performance information to support decision making, including monthly and annual data, bespoke and ad hoc reports
  • Provides clinical data for accreditation, commissioning and contracting requirements
  • Analyses all reports and information extracted from SystmOne and develops new reports as required
  • Provides support to all users of SystmOne as required, working with Clinical Database Administrator
  • Ensures comprehensive training is delivered to all users of SystmOne
  • Works with IG Lead to compile evidence for requirements of the Information Governance Toolkit
  • Ensures regular and systematic audits of appropriate use by users is in place and reported upon
  • Ensures processes are in place to maintain user access to SystmOne in the event of loss of the N3 connection
  • Develops and implements policies, guidelines and procedures relating to use of SystmOne
  • Ability to work individually and unsupervised on all common processes and as a supportive member of the team

  • Volunteers are a vital resource to St. Wilfrid’s Hospice and it is the responsibility of all staff to treat them with respect and value their contribution
  • Works within agreed Hospice policies, procedures and guidelines


  • Degree level education in related subject
  • Experience of using SystmOne is desirable
  • In depth understanding of Office IT, including Excel
  • Strong data governance, reporting and analytical skills
  • Excellent Communication and Customer Service skills
