Warehouse Operative, Chalcraft Lane, Bognor Regis

Salary: £7.83 per hour
Hours: 22.5 hours per week – worked on a rota basis, including weekends and Bank Holidays

We are looking for a highly organised person to work in our furniture & clearance outlet. The successful candidate will assist in the day to day running and control of furniture and goods received. Work well in a team and demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills.

This outlet trades 7 days a week and the role will involve a high level of manual handling.

  • Support the Manager in delivering excellent customer service
  • Work with the team to support all Retail activities


  • Responsible for providing a high standard of customer service to donors and customers
  • Responsible for stock movement and handling


  • Delivers the St Wilfrid’s culture of excellence in people care, in particular recognising that some donors may have been recently bereaved
  • Assists in the day to day running of the site in the control of furniture and goods received, sorting of saleable goods and distribution thereafter
  • Assists in disposal of waste to tip as required
  • Assists in loading and unloading of vans
  • Prepares goods for sale
  • Promotes Gift Aid as required
  • Helps maintain a clean and tidy work environment
  • Assists in the presentation and movement of furniture in the shop showroom as required
  • Acts as assistant to the driver as required, using safe and agreed practices at all times
  • Takes responsibility for safe practice and awareness of health and safety and infection control thus ensuring that the Hospice’s exposure to risk is minimised
  • Challenges self and others in the team to make continuous improvement
  • Works as an integral part of the shops team, being sensitive to the needs of the whole team and supportive of other team members
  • Communicates clearly and regularly with their Line manager and colleagues
  • Comply with requests from the Shop Manager, Deputy Manager and the Shop & Donation Centre Supervisors
  • Works at other locations as required
  • Participates in the rigorous application of performance management
  • Provides development training and support for self including mandatory updates on H&S, fire safety and back care
  • It is the responsibility of all staff to treat volunteers with respect and value their contribution
  • Works within agreed hospice policies, procedures and guidelines
